PIGEON POST EXHIBITION COLLECTION. A beautiful collection displayed and annotated to a high standard on 44 display pages in exhibition sleeves with stamps, Cinderella labels, covers, photographs & newspaper articles (both contemporary and reprinted) plus so much else telling the story of the of the history, place and characters involved in the 10 years for which the pigeon post service an stamps existed! Items span from 1898 to 1997 and begin with 1898 1d deep blue, 1s blue-green & 1899 6d blue triangular (CP VP1,2,7) also a couple of early forgeries, then a fabulous array of ephemera incl and early "Auckland Flying Club" pigeon racing logo which was used to base the triangular design around, a real photo of "Frickers Great Barrier Pigeon Agency" at Orville in 1900, a presumably unique early album page with a beautifully hand- written testimony signed by the Postmistress of Great Barrier Island attesting to Mr Fricker being the originator of the Pigeon Post; 1939 special cover with special enclosure which was carried by pigeon, 1899-1949 Anniversary covers & sheetlet by the Air Mail Society, modern 'flimseys', special covers plus so much else. A wonderful topical collection displayed to the highest standard and so interesting!
