Dommering Winschoten (1911 – 1967)
In 1899 werd er aan het hotel Wisseman, waarvan de heer Dommering
eigenaar was, een grote toneelzaal gebouwd. Eigenlijk was deze
toneelzaal alleen bedoeld voor het geven van toneelvoorstellingen
maar in 1911 werden er al in zaal Wisseman filmvoorstellingen
gegeven. Hierdoor was de schouwburgzaal van hotel Wisseman de
eerste bioscoop in Winschoten.
Ook na de komst van het Scala Theater in 1928 bleef Wisseman
doordraaien. Publiek was er immers genoeg. Film was een nieuw
medium en de bezoekers konden maar niet genoeg krijgen “van
den levenden photographiën”. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog
werd Wisseman door de Duitsers gevorderd en mochten alleen Duitse
soldaten naar de UFA en Tobis films kijken die er gedraaid
werden.
Het is aan de Canadezen te danken dat het hotel van naam
veranderde. Toen zij na de oorlog hun intrek in het hotel namen
vonden ze het maar wat vreemd dat het hotel de naam Wisseman droeg
en niet de naam van de eigenaar Dommering. Zij bleven het hotel dan
ook gewoon Hotel Dommering noemen.
De jaren vijftig waren vette jaren voor Dommering. Niet alleen liep
het storm met de schouwburgvoorstellingen, ook de bioscoop was
telkens uitverkocht. Dommering was een begrip geworden, niet alleen
in Winschoten maar voor heel Noord Nederland. De Snip en Snap
revues en diverse andere grote artiesten uit binnen- en buitenland
waren op het toneel te zien. De dansavonden zijn bij veel oud
inwoners van Winschoten kostbare herinneringen.
Aan Dommering kwam in 1967 plotseling een eind toen de grote
schouwburg- en bioscoopzaal door een felle brand compleet werd
verwoest. In het gedeelte dat door de brand gespaard bleef heeft
men nog een dancing gestart. Maar ook deze dancing was niet onder
een gelukkig gesternte gebouwd. In 1971 brak er opnieuw brand uit
en ditmaal was het voorgoed over en uit met Dommering.
Op de plaats waar dit legendarische cultuurpaleis heeft gestaan is
thans de HEMA gevestigd.

Dommering Winschoten (1911 - 1967)
In 1899 there was the hotel Wisseman, which Mr Dommering
owner was a large auditorium built. Actually this
auditorium was only meant for giving stage performances, but in
1911 films have already been given in the hall Wisseman.
This was the auditorium of hotel Wisseman the first cinema in
Winschoten.
Even after the arrival of the Scala Theatre in 1928 Wisseman
kept on turning. Audience was indeed enough.
Film was a new medium, and the visitors just could not get
enough "of the living Photographien". During World War
II Wisseman was requisitioned by the Germans and were only allowed
German troops to the UFA and Tobis watch movies that were
turned.
It is thanks to the hotel changed its name. To
Canadians After the war, when she moved into the hotel
names they found it strange that bore the hotel name Wisseman and
not the name of the owner Dommering. They continued to
the hotel then simply call Dommering Hotel.
The fifties were good years for Dommering. Not
only was the storm with theater performances, even the cinema was
always sold out. Dommering had become a household name
not only in Winschoten but for the whole of Northern
Netherlands. The Snip and Snap revues and several
other great artists from home and abroad were to be seen on
stage. The dances at many former residents of
Winschoten precious memories.
Dommering came to a sudden end in 1967 when the great theater
and cinema hall was destroyed. Complete a blaze In the
section that was spared by the fire has been a dancing
started. But the dancing was not built under a lucky
star. In 1971, a fire broke out again and this time it
was for good on and off with Dommering.
At the place where this legendary culture palace stood is now
the HEMA established.
